Tarantula

Today I came home from work to find the Baby's (see post below) Mom or Dad in our driveway.

This sucker was big. Probably 4 inches.

Note how well camouflaged he is.

The above is his "I'm big and threatening" posture. (He really was big and did not need to posture.)

He could run fast at times as well.

Fun was had.

Shoes are a good idea out here though.

Seems like I have lots of snakes and spiders on the blog. It is not like we see these every day out here, just a few times a year. I think they are cool enough to always warrant photos. The snakes and tarantulas are definitely more active in late summer and fall. The tarantulas are almost all males out looking for a mate.

Besides they are harmless as shown below.

Bike Park

I found these vids from last month that I forgot to post in the excitement of having a new baby.

This is the local skate/bike park that Ethan likes to go ride around in.

Nelson Home School Year Two

Second grade for Ethan and Rachel started this week

Abby is joining in a bit with some of the basics.

Unrelated. Rachel did the below totally unprompted, uncoached, etc.

Dad thinks it is cute.

Mom is a bit disappointed in the spelling, and letters. Rachel can certainly do better, but it will come. The heart behind it is pure.

Abby's response to finding out the 1.5" long spider found in the back yard was actually a baby tarantula.

He has a lot of growing to do.

Wreck

He was actually going a lot straighter down the driveway which is steep and straight into a road. His crash was about another 20-30 feet down the hill.

We are very, very thankful this was not worse. Abby could have killed Joel. We figure Heather running over the stroller while in a pregnancy hormone induced haze a couple months ago saved him because it pulls fairly hard to the right since.

Thank you God.

Heather struggled with fear issues for a while after this incident. You simply can not be everywhere at the same time. She felt the Lord speaking to her through this verse a few days later.

"See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven."

Hard as it can be, we need to entrust our children to the Lord.

Heather is happy the baby is outside...unlike last time we did this hike.

We saw what I believe was a Garter snake in the water.

He was quite the swimmer and could even dive under the water.

I caught him briefly...just long enough to fling him on to Rachel's legs. My ears still hurt. I think she will need counseling.
